** Virus Alert: KAK Worm **

Wscript.KakWorm spreads using Microsoft Outlook Express. It attaches itself to all outgoing messages using the Signature feature of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer newsgroup reader.  This means that the virus is part of the email now, not an attachment like most other viruses.  If the email is read, the virus is initiated.

The worm utilizes a known Microsoft Outlook Express security hole so that a viral file is created on the system without having to run any attachment. Simply reading the received email message causes the virus to be placed on the system.  Microsoft has patched this security hole. The patch is available at:  http://www.microsoft.com/technet/ie/tools/scrpteye.asp

If you have a patched version of Outlook Express, this worm will not work automatically.  Click here to download a tool from Symantec's Antivirus Research Center to repair Wscript.Kakworm damage.

If you have been infected with the KAK Worm, it may lock up your email program completely.  If you have run the virus fix and the program has quarantined the virus, your email may not run.  The file must be deleted completely from your PC.
