Helpful Internet Pages

My daughter told me that she can use the Internet as a resource in research papers.  What are some good pages to use?

Research papers that formerly involved hours upon hours in the library now can be completed in half the time with the help of the Internet.  Some good online resources to use are:

1. www.Britannica.com - Small amounts of information are available for free.  Full articles are available with a subscription.

2. www.Encarta.com - a smaller version of the software offered by Microsoft.

3. www.Nupedia.com - a free online encyclopedia.

4. www.FarmersAlmanac.com - an online version of the book printed every year.

5. www.HistoryChannel.com - articles about shows featured on the TV channel.

6. www.Discovery.com - the online hub for the Discovery Channel, along with its subsidiaries like Animal Planet, TLC and the Travel Channel.

7. www.Bible.com - features scripture and audio links.

For current events:

1. www.Time.com - home of the printed magazine.

2. www.CNN.com - home of the printed magazine and TV channel.

3. www.msnbc.com - online articles from the TV channel, updated all day long.

4. www.NationalGeographic.com - online articles from the magazine, TV channel and host to the image archives.

For searching all web pages for information, try these search engines:

1. www.google.com

2. www.lycos.com

3. www.excite.com

4. www.nothernlight.com

5. www.yahoo.com

6. www.askjeeves.com

7. www.altavista.com

Other online resources to try which incur a subscription fee are:

1. www.Questia.com - an online encyclopedia.

2. gme.Grolier.com - online version of Grolier's printed encyclopedia, along with multimedia options.
