Too Much Loading?

I boot up my computer and I'm already down to 60% resources.  How can I change that?

If you've noticed that your computer seems to be taking longer to boot up or it has gotten slower, you may have too much in your startup.  First off, as soon as you turn on your PC and it has loaded into Windows, follow these steps:

  1. Right mouse click on the "My Computer" icon.

  2. Select "Properties."

  3. When the dialog box opens, click on the "Performance" tab.

  4. Located near the bottom is the word "Resources".  At what percentage does it say you're operating?

If your PC is already below 80% on Startup, you have too much loaded in your startup.  Try the following to free up some resources:

  1. Look at your Start bar.  Near the clock, are there a lot of icons?  All of those programs are loading when you boot up your PC.  You can shut some of those down:

    1. If a program is loaded on your Start bar, open that program up.  Somewhere in the setup or options, it should ask you if you want to load the program at startup.  Turn that option off.

    2. Some programs like Task Manager will always open on boot.  It's okay to leave those on the start bar.

    3. Programs like MSN Messenger, AOL AIM, ICQ and other instant messaging programs eat up a lot of those resources.  Don't load those when you boot up the computer.  Those programs place icons on your desktop that you can double click once you logon to the Internet.  It might mean a few more steps to talk to your friends, but this will speed up your PC and you won't have to reboot as often.

  2. Click on your Start bar and go to "Programs."  There should be an option called "Startup."  You can also delete items out of there.  Items like the Office Start Bar can be deleted, since Word, Excel and other Office Suite programs are already located under the Programs folder & Shortcuts can be placed on your desktop.
